Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux

Vosne-Romanée, Côte-de-Nuits, Bourgogne, France

"There is no magic formula," says Pascal Lachaux of Arnoux-Lachaux, "all you need is is fine grapes and the rest is secondary." Passionate about the land and respectful of the organic soil, Pascal is in constant quest of purity and balance in his wines. Pascal took over the domaine in the early 1990s when it was in the name of his father-in-law Robert Arnoux who died in 1995. Since then he has revitalised the domaine to the extent his wines leave no doubt as to their high quality.

Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux is located in Vosne Romanee and has total vineyard holdings of 12 hectares from which 15 crus are made. There are four grands crus from Clos de Vougeot, Echezeaux, Latricieres-Chambertin and Romanee-St-Vivant - these four get 100% new oak as well as the premier crus Reignots and Suchots. The other 1er crus get 50% and the village wines 20-25%. The yields are very low from old vines and the grapes are carefully selected. Destemming is 100%.

The wines today are a far cry from those produced under the Robert Arnoux label. They are modern, less extracted and very classy. The domaine has become quite famous for its Romanee-St-Vivant which has great complexity and power, made from 80-year-old vines from a plot only 0.35 hectare.
