Domaine Alain Burguet

Gevrey-Chambertin

The domaine is located in the centre of Gevrey-Chambertin with nine crus produced from a total vineyard area of 8.35 hectares. In 2012 there was a changing of the guard when Alain's sons Jean-Luc and Eric assumed control of the domaine and Alain took retirement.

The domaine has now moved from organic to fully biodynamic farming practices but even in the 1970s and 80s when the use of chemical sprays in other vineyards was at its height, Alain was farming organically with such practices as growing grass between the vine rows with no use of sprays; all in the cause of farming richer and healthier soils with maximum microbian activity that in turn results in better grape acidity and phenolic maturity.

Everything is done by hand and naturally in the vineyard and winery with minimal intervention. Natural yeasts are used with no temperature control at fermentation and the wines are aged for 20 months with minimal SO2 and no fining or filtration.

The result of years of effort by the Burguet family are wines that are reflective of the terroir. They have intensity, focus and finesse. PMFW highly commends them.
