2020, Château Grand Village, BORDEAUX Blanc (Ch. Lafleur)

$60

Bordeaux Blend: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon.

White wines have been grown at Grand Village since the 17th Century but gradually gave way to red. In the 1990s Sylvie and Jacques started replanting some of the vineyards with Sauvignon and Sémillon, knowing that the vineyards showed great potential to make a fresh, youthful style of white wine. Ten years later vine stock from Sancerre was added by Baptiste and Julie which added extra layers of richness and complexity.

Château Grand Village Blanc 2020 displays a complex floral nose and great harmony between tension and texture on the palate. The finish is very long and elegant - with an excellent capacity to age well.

The 2020 Grand Village Blanc is a pretty heady wine, a blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Sémillon. Tangerine peel, mint, apricot and lemon confit are nicely amplified. There's terrific depth and richness, even if the finish dries out a bit. The 2020 feels a bit raw and not fully formed today. 89 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.

In 2020 a blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Sémillon. Outperforming both price-point and appellation, Grand Village has an intense grassy character on the nose and zesty grapefruit and lime on the palate. Vibrant, pure and concentrated with lingering acidity and a stony finish. The Guinaudeau family are most famous for Château Lafleur, yet Grand Village Blanc continues to improve each vintage. 93 Andy Howard MW, Decanter.
